WIWS: Palm Sunday

Joining the ladies again for WIWS

I'm really not fashionably inclined - I'm no homeschooler but I still manage to look like one sometimes (no offense to those homeschoolers that are fashionably inclined, like all my sister-in-laws).  I've been trying to get a little better at getting dressed during the day instead of being in my pajamas, like all the mommy blogs tell me to, and I've also been trying to be a little more fashion conscious.

One fashion trend that I like right now is the whole belt thing, though I'm pretty sure people have been wearing belts around their waists for years now...

I found a cute red belt at Goodwill and decided to give it a go with this new skirt/dress that I got from Ross this week.  I'm not completely sure that this outfit works...There might be too much going on and I think my choice of cardigan was not a good one.  Despite all those things, I do like the belted dress...hopefully I can come up with a better combination in the future.

Dress: Ross

Belt: Goodwill
Cardigan: Ross
Shoes: TJ Maxx

Aaaaannnnddd Max's behavior gets a big ol' F.  Apparently when I took him out of the sanctuary, down the hall, around a corner, and into an unused classroom to let Max cry for a bit, Matt and my brother Travis could still hear him throughout the end of the Gospel and the homily.  Embarrassing.

Needless to say, I have nothing to report regarding a Palm Sunday message.  May you have a blessed Holy Week - maybe I'll be back and do a WIW for Holy Thursday and Good Friday too?

What I Wore Sunday

I really love linking up with FLAP and being more intentional about what I'm wearing to mass on Sundays!

I need to work on better photos...

Da Details
Dress: Maggy London from TJ Maxx
Cardigan: Cable and Gauge *thrifted*
Scarf: Eddie Bauer
Same boots and earrings from last week

Our little man has a fever today :(  He's usually very sad about taking naps and sleeping, but today Daddy put him in the bed and he fell asleep without a peep - resulting in sad faces from all involved.

Once we hit baby #20 we'll likely never be phased by fevers and sickness, but with baby #1 it's as if the plague has hit the house - fevers being checked every half hour, symptoms being googled, and moms being called just to double check.

As for a Lenten message, our Deacon gave a very interesting homily today!  I had no idea that a version of the parable of the prodigal son had been circulated among the Jews before, but instead of the father accepting the younger son he denies him and gives all his inheritance to the eldest - a parable of justice.

Deacon was trying to put the parable into better context for us, since apparently there are many important aspects of the parable that go above our heads in modern times.  For example, by asking for his inheritance before his father passes away the younger son insults his father in the highest degree - he basically insinuates that he wishes his father were dead.

Interesting stuff!  It makes me miss Dr. Bergsma's class at FUS!  Anyone else an alum??

Thanks for stopping by and have a blessed week!

What I Wore Sunday

Sweater: Ann Taylor *thrifted*
Skirt: Banana Republic *thrifted*
Boots: I don't know - I was too excited that I got them at TJ Maxx for $5 when they were originally $250 to notice the brand.  I do know that they're real leather and that Italian is written on the soles.  Sold.
Earrings: Anthropologie *Ebay*

Do you notice a trend here?  My husband does a wonderful job at supporting our family, but we are in a small financial bind (Why student loans? Why!?) and I try to do my best to purchase things for less, whether it be on sale or by savaging Goodwill and St. Vincent's from time to time.  I've never been in a location where good, cute clothing can be purchased at a thrift store before (Lucky brand jeans for $15!?), so I'm taking full advantage of it now.  I love Auntie Leila's advice about thrifting and have found that I don't need most things right now - I just wait to purchase whatever it is for a less expensive price when I find it.

For example, I've been looking for cute boots for years and noticed that our local TJ Maxx had a lot of cute styles this winter, but were not a price point that I wanted to pay.  I registered that info in my head, and every time I went I checked to see if any were on sale.  Finally, this last week I saw these beauties and decided to buy them just on principle.  I'm so proud of my find that I've been waiting and waiting for Sunday so I would have a good excuse to wear them!  I love these boots because they have heels but are much easier to walk around in.  And with a running baby, that's necessary!

Come on by and get fashionably inspired by the other ladies at Fine Linen and Purple!

Oh, Matt and I decided that Max got at D+ today at Mass.  He's so loud, even when he's cute and babbling, and he's the ONLY BABY at the particular mass that we go to (maybe we should re-think that one...) but I do love going to that one it for it's quiet nature...and mostly for the fact that it starts at 11:30.  I haaaaaaaaaate waking up on Sunday mornings only to realize that we have 30 minutes to get ready.  That always = one grumpy Katie, which is NOT a good way to start the Holy day.
